The best way to have grace and peace in your life: increase your knowledge of Jesus.

May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. (2 Peter 1:2 ESV)

I’m always befuddled by people who are so stressed out with life that they find a distraction to keep their attentions away from their stressors and then become more stressed that they wasted their time with the distraction. The reason I’m dumbfounded by this behavior is because it seems counter-intuitive to me. Sure, I have a workaholic problem where I work a stressor out until it is stressed out and allows me to overcome the stress, but that’s not completely the right approach either.

If you want to live with less stress, then the answer is to have grace and peace emanating from within us in an outwardly manner. The Apostle Peter says to the stressed out 1st century believers that grace and peace is multiplied through their increased knowledge of God and of Jesus. That is to say that stressed out believers should be praying that God, or our increased knowledge of God and Jesus in our lives will multiply the grace and peace of God into our lives. This is exactly what they did too!

If you think you’re stressed out, then take heart of what the 1st century Christians did– increase their knowledge of God and of Jesus. That made the stressful life they were living, as God honoring, Jesus loving followers in a society persecuting them because of their beliefs, and difficult economic times easier to deal with. Getting closer with God provided the grace and the peace needed for their lives. Give it a try.
