When all else fails, then pray. That should be the thought that comes to your mind every time you find yourself in a situation where everything else failed.
The disciples were going throughout the country preaching the gospel and doing amazing things in the name of Jesus when they came upon a man whose child has been possessed. Unfortunately, they couldn’t do anything about it. They didn’t know what to do. So they brought the man and his child to Jesus. Jesus immediately banishes the evil spirit within the boy and the disciples are wondering why they couldn’t do something they had been doing and what Jesus so easily had done. Jesus responds:
“This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.” (Mark 9:29)
Whenever we embark on something we should be praying. While everything we do should revolve around praying and being in contact and in connection with God, I know that sometimes God is just the furthest thing from our minds. Because that is the furthest thing from our minds, we often forget that when we’re at our wits end, we should be praying.
There are some difficulties that you and I will face in our lifetimes. I’m not talking about the type of difficulties where you get a text message from your bank telling you that you have a low balance in your account a few days before payday. I’m talking about the type of difficulties that you can’t even rationalize that are beyond your control and abilities like the death of a loved one, or catastrophic losses to business or home, or illness, or even a substantial relational failure. When you’re in those places, we should remember that it’s about prayer. Nothing but prayer can help you or provide any relief.
If you’re at a place where everything else has failed and you don’t know what to do, I want you to pray. If you don’t know how to pray that’s okay. You can pray this, “God give me the words to say something to you.” If you want to pray with somebody reach out to me, and we can pray together.
