Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:5 ESV)

Life is pretty tough to swallow, no matter how much you make, where you live, and who you know. The places and spaces you are walking while reading this tells you that even you need some encouragement. In fact, everything about your life right now may even seem to be overwhelmingly difficult. If you’re not there, in the hard and difficult place now, you were, or you will be.

The good news and the promise you can keep close to your heart is that when we believe in the power of God redeeming us every single moment, then we will overcome the aftermath of life’s circumstances. Jesus overcame death, the most powerful and destructive force against life. Our faith in Jesus’ salvific work will cause us to overcome the same death and then some.

Today, if you’re feeling overcome, then remember this promise in 1st John and take a moment to listen to the song titled, “Overcomer” by Mandisa to reiterate the point. The lyrics go like this:

Whatever it is you may be going through
I know he’s not gonna let it get the best of you
You’re an overcomer
Stay in the fight ’til the final round
You’re not going under
‘Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it’s hopeless
That’s when he reminds you
That you’re an overcomer
