Do you suffer from anxiety? Like do you get anxious before meetings with strangers, or when you leave the office with unfinished business, or have been called out for being wrong, or after an argument, or when you are on the TSA line at Newark Airport travelling anywhere because you are there two hours early but the screening line is out the terminal and halfway down the turnpike so you don’t know if you are going to make your plane because it seems half of New York is on the same line as you? Okay, maybe the last one is just for us New Yorkers.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6‭-‬7 ESV)

If you want alleviate anxiety when you are experiencing so much of it that it is making you sick, you simply need to humble yourself. That is to say, you need to realize that in the situation you are in, you are not that important and easily replaceable. In fact the only reason you are where you are, doing what you are doing is because God’s grace has been on you and allowing you to overachieve. True story that every successful person will admit to. They worked hard, yes; but there was always much more at play than how much they worked or strategized.

If you give to God the glory that belongs to God, your anxiety will be alleviated. God cares for you. He cares more than you can do, so hand it to Him. The Apostle Peter was the “Rock” Jesus built the church on, yet he is known for making knucklehead moves and saying the wrong things at the wrong time. Yet he knew the secret of not breaking down on the side of a Roman highway and a midlife crisis: by laying it all before God in faith knowing God cares far more than we ever can.

Try that today and watch your stress decrease, and anxiety wane away.
