Are you weary and as tired as I am lately? It’s as if you have reached your wits end and are about to run out of gas. When we feel that way, we should say to ourselves, “be evergreen.”

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. (Psalm 52:8 ESV)

Interesting fact about Olive trees: they are in the evergreen family of trees. That means they don’t shed their leaves through the changing seasons. It also means that they are incredibly resilient and versatile. The olive tree is strong enough to weather the storms because of how it’s roots are dug deeply into the ground that is planted and the trunks are solid and well entrenched into the ground. Olive trees aren’t going anywhere and nothing will be moving them any time soon. David metaphorically speaks about being an evergreen tree– the olive tree. The reason he calls himself the olive tree in the house of God is because he trusts that he will be sustained and will be able to get through whatever it is that the world throws at him. David may have been a king, but he was only able to do what he did because he was rooted deep into God.

If you want to spend your life living a topsy-turvy existence where your life peaks only parts of the time, then don’t do anything after reading this. If you want to be evergreen, and produce without fail and have a rich life rooted deeply into the life giving being who is Jesus, then seek God and His Kingdom and your life will be evergreen.
