Has the church that you and I are a part of become a meaningless convocation of noise? Or is there still faith alive in our participation? Is the church now, nothing more than an event filled and religiously oiled “personal-care” institution? Now that we’ve had almost a full twenty-four hours to recuperate from the limelight of VBS, I’ve had a little time to sit and read the Book of Isaiah.

Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations— I cannot bear your worthless assemblies. (Isaiah 1:13)
The key to understanding what makes everything so worthless is the notion that in participating in these activities and church events, there is no change and in effect, more rebellion from those who participate within it. What I am saying is: have we made the church experience nothing more than a nervous habit or does hearing the encouragement of the gospel move us to change and seek God’s sanctification within our lives? So let us ask ourselves, do we do church because we do church? To be clear, I am asking if we’re playing church like little kids play house? Or do we do church because we’re looking for people, for God, who washes us and makes us clean? Furthermore, are we doing what’s right before God? Mind you, “doing right” isn’t a church service, neither is it some lackluster tradition of religion or a showing of piety, but the work of healing, protecting, defending, and prophesying as Jesus did and still does through the Holy Spirit within all of His believers and followers?
