“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.” (Isaiah 12:4-5)

I don’t think we give it enough thought in our daily lives, but when we sit there and really think about things, we realize how much more intimately God has been involved with our upbringing than we give Him credit for. If you’re an atheist or agnostic, or one of those Christians that believe is some type of impersonal clockmaker, you can only reason your way to believing that your life was series of unfortunate events for so long. Sooner or later, you realize coincidence doesn’t cut it, neither does the far fetched logic you contrived to make yourself believe that it’s all your own doing. (I know that those of you suffering through some horrible experiences and events right now can’t believe this; but that’s not how the story ends for you, nor will God leave you to succumb. Keep your head up and keep trucking because when you’re looking to God, you don’t need to see anything else.) When I sat and thought about it (my professional career) I realized that none of it was due to the character I possessed, nor the skills that I honed. All of it was God quietly taking somebody, with more flip-flopping than a politician, along a path already prescribed so that he could witness some great things along the way. I’m sure, all intentionality aside, you owe more to the unintentional circumstances than to your planned ones. So God tells Isaiah, “sing to the Lord because He has done glorious things and you witnessed them.” God has done so much for you. Will you recognize them? Just take the time today to reflect, I bet you can fill more than a notebook’s worth of pages with things you can’t take credit for. Glorious things done by God, name them in your life today.
