We need to do a better job at following God’s commands and instructions wholesale. Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God. (Jeremiah 42:6) I noticed I have this tendency to only obey God when it is convenient, or when it is agreeable, or personally beneficial. Unfortunately, sometimes we know that God asks us to do things in obedience to Him which may not fall into one of the three above mentioned categories. If you’re a human being, you probably have the same tendency in terms of obedience. We should know that most if the time God is asking us to obey Him because He sees a picture of what could be and we don’t have all of that information and therefore a failure to obey God is not beneficial to us nor is it prudent given our imperfect information. I don’t know why we choose to believe God would want the best for us? But when we don’t obey God it’s a treatment saying that we don’t believe God it’s for us. Jesus could have disobeyed God and not been crucified, but He chose the crucifixion, in complete obedience to God because He knew the Father had the best possible outcome in mind. Just imagine who would have suffered and how long that suffering would have later were it not for Jesus’ complete obedience. Moreover, we cannot partially obey God because partial obedience is the same as no obedience. We need to learn that with God, unlike our math tests growing up, does not give partial credit. It is all or nothing. Doing something Good asks half the time is the same as failing to meet the bare minimum expectations the other half of the time. Complete obedience must be recognized as the bare minimum before God. We need to work to open our hearts to motivate our actions to it. Selectively choose to obey God completely and trust God that it will be well.
