“Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth (Genesis 9:16). On my first vacation in as long as I can remember, my wife and I saw something spectacular– it was a rainbow. The rainbow was signifying the passing rainstorm that had ravaged the night and the warm, life-giving sunshine that would ensue and allow us a recharge of vitamin D. Because the wind was blowing so swiftly across the island, the clouds and the trailing rainbow only momentarily shimmered through the sky. The sign was fleeting and would easily be missed in the rush of life, but it was a beautiful reminder of our Creator’s work in the world around us. As we begin the new year, I want all of us to stop for just a second and take notice of the beauty laying around us. In the Book of Genesis, God makes a covenant with Noah and all of creation that a rainbow would signify new life. In 2015, some of us need a sign to help remind us that we are starting life afresh and anew. When we stop and breathe in what’s going on around us, let us remember God who gives us a new start at life this year. There are new opportunities, new challenges, new friendships, and new ideas for us all. Be reminded of how God establishes His covenant with you this year. Witness a rainbow.
