We often think that what God wants is complicated. It isn’t.

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (Matthew 25:40 ESV)

Every single opportunity to do good for others is doing good for God. We may go unthanked, or even chastised for the good we do, but don’t worry, God knows and He is pleased by it. It’s so clear in this one verse alone. But read it in its entirety: Matthew 25:31-46. I want you to recognize that Jesus responded the way he did in verse 40 because the people questioned him in verse 39 saying, “but when did we ever do that?” This is probably something we often overlook as well– our mediocre or unnoticed acts of goodness change people’s lives, it affects them and weighs on them even if we don’t know it. It’s so simple. God asks us to richly love people who are around us. This includes our families, our colleagues, our friends, and our frenemies. In Jesus’ mind, this was the hallmark of faithfulness. For Jesus, how we love reflects our faith.
