Friday afternoon, Jesus died and was buried. He remained in his tomb in jerusalem from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning; however, during this time, Jesus was not idle!
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (John 10:11 ESV)
Jesus disciples and His family no doubt mourned tremendously because few believed His promise of resurrecting. They thought this was the end, and they grieved. We know now that He has done it. But why so we continue to act like Jesus did not lay it down for us? Why do we live like He was not resurrected? The Good Shepherd had a purpose to laying it down (his life) for his sheep. We struggle to find it in the horror of Jesus’ death, but today we must find it in the quiet before his return as king. As we prepare for Jesus’ return on this day where the punishment of our sin passes over us, let us know that the shepherd wants us to prosper in green pastures with His Father. Let’s thank God for our shepherd for passing over judgment of us.
