When life seems to be falling apart, when things stop making sense, we can find great comfort in Jesus’ own experience at the end of his life. When Jesus’ life was slipping away from him, he remained in control. He predicted his arrest and crucifixion. He knew that Judas, one of his trusted apostles, would betray him. But none of that mattered to Jesus because that was part of the plan.

Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” (John 19:11 ESV)

Though people have their plots and schemes, it is God’s plan that always prevails. Nothing can interfere with what God proposes to do. Isn’t that evident by what Jesus says to Pilate in this passage? The control Pilate believed he commanded was never his, it was always a power that came from the will of God. If you need power in your life, ask God. Know He is in control of your circumstances. You are exactly where you need to be to do your greatest work, believing that God had placed you to here to have more faith that He has it all under His control. Today, let us remember the shame of the cross where Jesus was hanged, was the control he exercised to defeat sin in our lives. Let us live our lives understanding that God is in control.
