Don’t ask how, but what if the horrible pain you are suffering now is actually fresh mercy from God for tomorrow? That would make your pain awfully merciful.

The thought of my suffering and homelessness     is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time,     as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope     when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. – Lamentations 3:19-23

On this day, the 11th of September, many of us will never forget this awful time, but when we reflect, we will remember through it all, God keeps us going. Let me explain to you what this means for us today. Your despair– that feeling you have that says there is nothing left in you because you have no more strength– that actually teaches us to trust in God for tomorrow. As crazy as it sounds, the awful time you are experiencing reminds us that we can’t do it on our own. We are not asked to live with the nothingness of our strength. Rather, we are reminded through the awfulness that we must trust God for His mercy because it’s fresh tomorrow!

I can’t be sure what struggles you are going through. I don’t know what your health is like, what is happening to your children, or parents. I can’t even begin to pretend to understand your finances. Whatever you’re going through, you’re probably telling yourself, “tomorrow? I can’t even make it through today!”  What I can tell you is that despite the struggles you’re facing, that if you stand in your faith that God promises mercies afresh in the morning, there is mercy for us today as we wait in our weakness.

Dare to hope because God’s faithful love never ends.
