But the evil spirit answered them, Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you? (Acts 19:15) I’m not advocating for you to gain popularity with demonic spirits. I am advocating that you be known for the power of God being within you. In this passage, Luke writes that there were seven brothers who had seen what Paul had been doing (healing, exorcizing, preaching, etc) and decided that they would try to manipulate the power of God for their own personal gain. That was a great plan until they met a demon. In fact, there are a lot of people out there who try to use religion and/or spiritual power for their own personal gain. If you don’t believe me, just turn on the TV and watch the news for fifteen minutes and you’ll see religious scandal, religious wars, religious public policy and so forth. But it’s always faux religious power and evil in the intent. Yet, what we should realize is that these people, even though they seem to get ahead in life, don’t have much real power. In fact the reason they are exposed is because they meet a real evil spirit and whatever fake intentions and power they say they possessed turns our to be nothing more than a joke. We know for a fact however, that there is real spiritual power from God. Jesus had it. Paul had it. The other apostles had it. Countless others who are not spoken of have it. And when the evil comes knocking, or when they come knocking on evils door, evil recognizes it and runs. Be known for the power of God. I challenge you. Be filled with the spirit of God. Go out and do the work of God, whatever it is that God gave you to love your neighbors, and don’t let the evil in this world stop you. Be recognized.
