Just because you are gifted at something, does not mean you should do it. That may not be convincing to everybody here because some of you still haven’t felt called to anything to go all in about.

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.”

But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 1:4-8 ESV

Let’s talk about what you were born to do. God declares Jeremiah to be somebody, just as God tells us that we’re his children and that he created us for a purpose with specific strengths and personalities. You believe this? Yeah, you should. Then Jeremiah argues back with God, “no, I have doubts about my abilities.” God turns around and says, “I’m with you…”

Strengths and Weaknesses

Here’s what this calling story teaches us: strength is not what you’re good at, and a weakness is not what you’re bad at.

A strength is something you’re excited to do, something that energizes you, and when you do it, you achieve that feeling of being “in the zone” you are strengthened. I’m sure you can write down a few types of tasks or things that when you perform them, you feel energized and strengthened.

A weakness is something you dread doing, something that you find yourself procrastinating, and when you do it, you feel drained. You are weakened by the experience or task and you need to rest up and recover from it.

Conclusion

So, you are called to a vocation, and that calling changes through different times in your life. Regardless, you should be in a calling that energizes, because that is strength. When you discern what you should be doing, then you can figure out where you’re headed.

At the very least, know you are called by God and have been appointed to do things before you were even born. When you live in that truth, there is very little you shouldn’t try because you’re afraid to find the sweet spot of God’s calling on your life.
