There is something about a person’s posture that creates an attitude of righteousness. When was the last time you bowed down before God and sought after Him?

…the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,     the Lord loves the righteous. Psalm 146:8b

We, as followers of Christ, don’t spend enough time bowing down to God. Especially in the 21st century when it is difficult and hard to even shut down for the night. It is an aspect of our lives that we need to recapture because without it, we so easily become unrighteous. We fall victim to ourselves and become self-involved to the point of arrogant insufferability. I realized how important it is to just bow down to God every single day. When I say “bow down,” I mean just sit in God’s presence, humbled at the thought of God in our lives. After all, how often do we really stop and just think about God? And when we do really stop and just think about God, is it with the same posture bending attitude as if we were bowed down before a glorious God?

When we bow down before God, the Psalmist writes that God will lift us up, that is to say that we will be lifted above the fray of our lives, the circumstances that weigh us down, the busy-ness that clouds our sight. We need to bow down so that God can just love on us. He loves it when people can see themselves and their lives for what they are– nothing before an all powerful, all loving God. God loves us and we feel it when we bow down before Him. This is righteousness, to stop and bow down and be with Him so that God can lift us up. When life is crazy and you know it, it’s time to bow down. When people are crazy and you know it, it’s time to bow down. When work is going crazy and you know it, it is definitely time to bow down.
