You can apply this lesson from the Prophet Ezekiel professionally and personally. If you have ever made a mistake or you see that the direction you are heading is not the same direction as you started, then read what God tells Ezekiel carefully:

Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.” (Ezekiel 18:31-32 ESV)

The things (e.g. habits, addictions, actions, decisions, etc) that made you head in the wrong direction, the Prophet says to literally hurl it away. This simply means, stop doing them and moreover, it means to stop being held back or down by them. Let them go and start from this moment forward with a new mindset, attitude, and actions. Do not allow your past mistakes and character define your life now or in the future.

God tells the Prophet here that the Israelites should “make” themselves a new heart and a new spirit– that is to “commit” to doing the exact opposite of what’s killing them. That’s the key here. If you want to move forward in the right direction for you, then you need to commit to live unlike how you used to live and decide you will move forward living in a way unlike the way we used to.

The lesson can be applied to all aspects of our lives. If what we’re doing and the thoughts we are having are clearly our downfall why are we committed to keep doing it? We need to commit ourselves to doing exactly the opposite. Instead, we need to live the way we know we were created for.
