Did you know that the only thing stopping us from death is a matter of belief? Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.  And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. (John 3:18-19) Today, I want you to think about what we are memorializing on this solemn day– the death of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We remember his ultimate sacrifice today. He gave his life for us. He did it so that when we believe in Him and His sacrifice, we will not be condemned, not today, not ever. We will not be condemned to death. Today, if you never believed, I want you to open your heart for belief. If you’ve always believed, then I want you to make that belief your own and cherish it and never let go. If you are overwhelmed by the magnitude of it, then I want you to pray and reflect on it because it’s so great and so easy that our condemnation is gone once we step away from disbelief and allow ourselves the opportunity to reach out and grasp Jesus and believe that you were worth dying for and for that reason, God is worthy to be praised. So like everything else we offer Jesus, let it be humble praise purified and magnified to be the sweet aroma of belief in Jesus by His grace and mercy. Here’s a prayer to reflect on the rest of the day:

Lord Jesus, how can we even begin to express the gratitude, love, and praise we feel in response to what you’ve done for us on the cross? Every response we offer is woefully insufficient to the magnificence of your mercy and the measure of your grace lavished on us in the gospel.Because you were fully forsaken, we are forever forgiven. Because you exhausted God’s judgment against our foul sin, we now live by the gift of your perfect righteousness. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! So very Amen we pray, in your all-glorious, all-grace-full name. (Scotty Smith)
