Allow me to send the background for us this morning: God is my last chance of the day. I spend the night on my knees praying. I’ve had my fill of trouble; I’m camped on the edge of hell. I’m written off as a lost cause, one more statistic, a hopeless case. Abandoned as already dead, one more body in a stack of corpses, And not so much as a gravestone— I’m a black hole in oblivion. I’m dropped into a bottomless pit, sunk in a pitch-black abyss. I’m battered senseless by rage, relentlessly pounded by waves of anger. My friends are against me. I’m caught in a maze and can’t find my way out, blinded by tears of pain and frustration. Does that sound like your day? Week? Year? Lifetime? If it does, the Psalmist writes, “But I, O Lord, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you.” (Psalms 88:13 ESV) What is the reason for that though? What is gained from it? If God were listening, you probably wouldn’t be this frustrated, would you? I would be remiss if I told you that the Psalmist finds resolution to his or her frustrations after crying out to God, that crying to God through our prayers in the morning bring about some miraculous overnight sensation. But I don’t think the Psalmist finds any resolution at all. Nor do I think it is realistic to say that one cry of frustration will alleviate any type of suffering on our behalf. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t me being faithless, no, not at all. Rather, this is me managing expectations of what happens when we do cry to God out of frustrations: nothing! Nothing you’re expect anyways. See God isn’t a magic 8 ball that you shake to find resolution. But we treat Him like one. Unlike a magic 8 ball, God is listening to our cries; He is allowing for our frustrations to be enveloped by His love. That is much more greater than the miracle you’ve been frustrated at not receiving. You may get divine intervention and that’s great and I’m not discounting it by any means. However, you and I have something better than a physical miracle. We have a supernatural God lending His ears to us when we are frustrated. It’s a miracle that we have the life to vent to Him. Our cries of frustration are heard every single time. People and loved ones may walk away and distance themselves, but God is listening and He can handle your cries. Trust in Him to cry your frustrations out to Him.
