When we dare to believe in Jesus, we will express our faith in positive ways. They replied, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be savedyou and your household. (Acts 16:31) Paul did society a favor by ridding the streets of a con artist who preyed on people by exploiting a young lady and he gets thrown into prison for it. Being thrown into prison unjustly isn’t the positive expression of faith. In fact, I would say that Paul’s actions to set the demon possessed girl free was a side note to the more positive expression of faith shown by the man who was supposed to keep watch over an innocent man in prison. Don’t get me wrong, what Paul had done was amazing and deserves recognition, but that was just a prelude to what faith really produces when believers believe. Here’s what happened next: There was an earthquake and the prison was compromised. The jailer was going to kill himself for a failure he wasn’t even responsible for. Paul and Silas stops him and shares some good news! The good news of Jesus Christ. Salvation was much more tangible for the jailer than eternal life. The jailer was going to kill himself for failure because he would have been executed for something like this, as was Roman custom. (It’s much more cutthroat than getting fired for missing a sales target). When we believe Jesus is our savior and we according to that belief, we can expect God to make our beliefs snowball despite what our situation may look like. This is why we believe. If Paul stopped believing when he was arrested after freeing a slave, a man would have died and his family ripped apart because of his death. Instead, God takes the actions breathed out of belief from Paul and Silas and multiplies it into immense glory and opportunity for people affected by that belief. If we would act with that type of belief and dare to extend ourselves that way, there is no amount of incredible measure that we would not experience. This is Day 3 of our VBS quiet time.
