…but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in bed are these: As Your Majesty was lying there, your mind turned to things to come, and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen…” – Daniel 2:28-29 I absolutely love how, even as a Christian, I sometimes subconsciously put more stock into horoscopes I read at a glance in the morning paper than I do to God’s word and prayer. Yeah, don’t judge me– you know you do it, too. But somehow we feel like large sweeping generalizations of our “fortunes” have more intimate impact on our lives than a living God whom direct our paths. So we seek counsel in fortunes that tell us to “make no decisions” and ignore God who tells us, “follow me!” How woefully pathetic have we become? King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. It was a horrible dream. It was a dream he knew would dictate his future. Unfortunately, he had no idea how it was supposed to dictate his future. I am not talking about a Martin Luther King Jr type of dream: I am talking about he went to sleep one night and had a nightmare that haunted him type of dream. He seemed the counsel of all the fortune tellers and soothsayers and believed none of their wide, over encompassing generalities. Then he found Daniel, who inquired specifically to God and gave him specific instructions on what the dream prompts King Nebuchadnezzar to do. Daniel tells King Nebuchadnezzar that God wanted to show him what will come. That’s what we need to take away from this. God wants to reveal His dreams for us so that when it becomes our reality, we are aware of it and know that it was God who ordained it. But, we don’t bother inquiring God, whom we say we believe and trust in, about those dreams. Now, I’m not just talking about dreams we have in the dead of night, but I am talking about the feelings and inklings of ideas and notions you have inside of you; knowing that there is more than what you see and feel, that you were meant for more things. Yet, even in knowing this, we would rather consult worthless sources instead of going to the creator, savior, sanctifier of our lives and the very source by which we have dreams. It’s time to stop taking our dreams to the wayside of broken hearts and cluelessness and consult our God, as the giver of dreams and ask Him what would He like to see unfold for our lives. I’ll tell you that consulting God, whom we have been given access to by Jesus Christ, will result in better outcomes for our dreams than looking for signs in the stars. Try it, go to your God and let Him do what He always wanted to do for you and unveil your dreams.
