Ever think about how our backgrounds often affect others perception of us (rasism, stereotypes, etc). Moreover, have you ever thought about how our past usually dictates what we can do in the future? Your SAT scores, college GPAs, bad financial decisions, credit card debt, etc, often dictate what you can do in the future. Your past labels you and puts you in boxes and categories. Just think about it– where you are now is probably a culmination of what you did or didn’t do. Understandably, there are some situations, where you were just born into a situation and a set of circumstances out of your control, but for the most part in America, we created our own present because of the labels we’ve carried in our past.  Look at what Paul says here: There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. – Galatians 3:28. Through Jesus, we stand on equal footing. We have equal opportunity. We have a new lease on the present and future. There are no distinctions between you or me, nor any other Christ follower before God. This is an eternal guarantee that is incredibly unbelievable. If this is a promise to us who believe and follow Christ, then I must ask whether or not we are allowing this oneness in Christ dictate who we are now in the present. More importantly, is this the identity we’re living into for our future? Are we still allowing who we used to be and what we used to be control where we go and who we become. I hope not. We are one in Christ, equalized as an heir to the kingdom of God by His blood. Let’s live like it.
