A wise investor will tell you to hedge your bets because you never know what the future holds. Jesus says, “go for broke in me.”
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. (Matthew 13:44 ESV)
You know this and I know this, but doing things partially or only partly is the same as not doing it at all. That’s why the idea of partial credit on math exams always excited me. It is the only time where you can get partial credit. That is credit for an attempt. I remember sometimes not know how to even begin solving for x and y that I would just make the equal sign, scribble some plusses and minuses and when I got the test back, there would be points added to my test I would have otherwise lost. But in real life, credit is binary, so as is risk and and reward. Or you get the credit or you don’t. You take the risk or you don’t. Or you get the reward or your don’t.
Jesus says in a parable that if we have the kingdom of heaven and we found it because Jesus found us when we were lost, then we need to go all in. There is no going partially with Jesus. There is no keeping an eye on it before making a decision. There is simply, go all in or risk losing it altogether. I know in your prudence you would never, ever go all in on something because wise people have told you to hedge your bets, but in this instance, when you found God, stop thinking about future and know what is assured: the kingdom of heaven awaits. God is waiting for you. Don’t be afraid to take the leap of faith. You will be rewarded for your risk.
If God is leading you in a direction today where you are feeling like you need make a choice about following him, then go all in and execute. When you follow Jesus with your everything, you will find joy.
