If you ever doubted or are doubting that God can deliver you against the mess you are facing in life: whether it is political attacks, relationship failures, addictions, circumstances of poor decisions, mistakes, or the impact of other people’s decisions on your life. I want to share this bit of encouragement with you: God gives us victory so that our faith can increase.

Below is the concluding verse of a story from the Bible about King Ahab. This verse is here to help us meditate on the truth of God’s provision for our faith, but in order to truly appreciate the truth, I want to encourage you to read the whole story because it is an interesting one in 1 Kings 20.
And behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel and said, “Thus says the Lord, Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”
1 Kings 20:13 ESV
Some things you should know about King Ahab of Israel:
- His wife was Jezebel, a princess from Tyre, a pagan worshipper
- He institutionalized Baal worship under significant influence from his wife, Jezebel
- He is one of the most wicked kings of Israel, particularly known for allowing idol worship to pervade Israel (read: he built altars and offered daily sacrifices) over serving the God of Israel
- He had a citizen, Naboth, in his own capitol executed through false pretense, because Naboth wouldn’t sell/trade Ahab his vineyard
- He tried challenging Elijah and failed on Mt Carmel. He actually had multiple despicable run-ins with prophets of God in his tenure
- He died from being pierced by an accidental arrow
So King Ahab being a horrible God follower, in fact, blatant enemy of God, why did God decide to rescue the king against the multitude that stood against him? Simple: So Ahab would know God. To woo back a lost and wicked soul. God could have easily replaced this wicked king, but instead, the run-ins with the prophets, this act of mercy in this passage, highlights that God cared enough to pursue the heart.
Look at your own situation, you may be facing the “multitudes” in your situation and circumstances, but God is going to give them into your hands? Do you know God will do so because he is your God and he wants to grow your faith and trust in him? If you didn’t know, then I want to open your mind and heart to the possibility that while the situation you are in may feel unsurmountable, God has your back.
Today is the time you want to start trusting God to deliver you. Can you spend time today telling God who and what is against you. Seek God’s deliverance in prayer, in meditation. God wants you to know him. He’s seeking you out, will you respond?
