Any vision you receive today from God warrants an action by you toward that vision today. Often times, we confuse a big vision from God as a gift that one day is dropped onto our laps for the taking. But that is not what a vision is. A vision from God is a cue for us to go in a certain direction for a purpose. Meaning that there needs to be actions we have to take right now toward that purpose.

We’re going to look at the Apostle Paul and learn for two steps of pursuing a vision from God.

And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Acts 16:10 ESV

1. Immediately seek the next step

Procrastination is the enemy of a vision from God. How do I know this? Because opportunities are lost by people who procrastinate. There is always a next step when we have a vision from God. Why would we sit on it? What purpose does that serve?

In the Apostle Paul’s case, he saw a vision for the people of Macedonia. So what was his next step? It was to find a way to get to Macedonia. So simple. The next step doesn’t have to be hard or difficult to obtain, it is just putting into action what you know has to come next so that you can get to the difficult or hard parts.

If you don’t know how to take the next step, check out the post I wrote about making decisions in crisis. That will help you contextualize the situation you are facing and make decisions appropriately.

2. Bring glory to God in your actions

The vision you get from God will always bring God the glory. Your next steps should always be using the gifts that you have to bring God the glory through your actions. The Apostle Paul’s gift was to preach, so he understood that he will bring God the glory as he preached.

What is your gift? It may not be preaching, but I guarantee that you received your vision from God because of your gifting to propel you from the next step to bringing God the glory.

This may seem like a weak argument, but the reason we were chosen was to bring God the greatest glory. Don’t forget that when we chose to believe in Jesus Christ, as our savior, we chose to forgo our own abilities to save ourselves to reach communion with God, but allowed God to gift us sonship in his kingdom.

Prayer: God, you give us visions for people. Help us understand them, and move on them immediately. No more procrastinating. No more indecisiveness. Give us the boldness to move to action. Moreover, help us bring you glory through our actions. Thank you, in Jesus name. Amen.
