Standing in God’s way while He does something incredible in your life is the easiest way to miss out on your destiny.

If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” (Acts 11:17 ESV)

Peter is recounting what had happened to him in his first preaching encounter with the gentiles. They were saved by the power of the Holy Spirit moving through the testimony of Peter. Then God did something more incredible so that Peter would be blessed by giving himself faithfully: God gave the new believers the gift of tongues. The Holy Spirit fell upon them with power. The lives of the new gentiles believers were radically changed and empowered beyond their wildest expectations and Peter learned that God does things powerfully when His followers get out of the way. Peter got out of the way. He didn’t allow expectations dictate terms to God’s power. As a result there was an incredible showing of God’s power in Jesus’ name. This event witnessed by Peter and fulfilled by the Holy Spirit redefined what was and isn’t possible when people have faith. Are you stumbling on yourself and blocking Good from doing something special in the lives of the people around you? I know I often find myself at odds and limiting the work of God in my life. I just can’t get out of the way. I can’t let go and faithfully follow God despite the fact that He gives me glimpses and hints of what He is about to do. I’m sure a lot of you have the same tendency to do the same and it is time for us to stop blocking God. That means that we stay faithful to what we know about God and where God tells us to go boldly in faith. It means that we take every opportunity of meeting to speak into the lives of the people we encounter. It means that we don’t sit and double question and rethink something so simple. Move and get out of the way and I promise the Holy Spirit will allow you to witness something incredible.
