Sometimes we just need to obey… especially when it doesn’t make any sense.

And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. (Luke 5:4-6 ESV)

Jesus will ask us to do some absurd things sometimes. It is in those times we need to not question, not doubt, and just keep our mouths shut and do it. But it is not a matter of trying is it? The reason we don’t obey even the simplest of requests from Jesus is because of our nagging pride. Look at Peter in this story. He didn’t want to put down the nets because he knew there should not be any fish to catch. His pride told him that it was a waste of time. Likewise, when Jesus tells us to speak about our faith, out pride tells us otherwise. Good thing for Peter that after his hesitation he goes ahead and does exactly a Jesus and anyways. We need to obey like Peter did: without allowing our pride to override our obedience. We don’t know better than God, we shouldn’t believe that God would tell us to do something that didn’t make sense to His purposes. We should try it today.
