If you don’t feel you deserve the fruit of your labor, well don’t feel too bad because that may have been part of God’s plan. Let’s not forget that our job to reap is for God’s glory, not our own.
“I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
John 4:38
A few things we need to understand in context so we can apply it to our lives:
- Jesus just shared the good news with a Samaritan woman: she was already primed to hear and receive the gospel
- The disciples came back with a not so ambitious agenda: to eat so ministry can continue elsewhere. They didn’t see the situation that was created for them to reap
- Jesus tells the disciples that there is no time for a passive agenda and that it’s time to reap the harvest
- The Samaritan woman brought people to hear the gospel directly from Jesus and people were saved
Apply this verse in your life today by:
- Making every interaction an intentional engagement for the kingdom of God
- Know how you play a role in the sowing and harvesting of God’s kingdom
- Be bold and own the situations and circumstances you find yourself in
- Allow yourself margin to reap the snowball
Prayer: Jesus, help us own the situations you place us in and allow us to be bold for your glory and for your harvest.
