Have you ever been so busy in life that you forget to take care of yourself?

And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. (Mark 6:31)

Everybody goes through periods in life where they are just so busy they have no time to take care of themselves. When life doesn’t give you a break, Jesus says, take a break. Consider this some very wise and solid advice, especially those of you who are juggling school, work, family, and a job on the side of all those I just mentioned. Jesus tells his disciples who are in a period of incredible busy-ness that they need to go and “rest for a while in a desolate place.” This does not mean to neglect  your responsibilities and the things that you’re doing; but it does mean that we need to periodically take a break.

What that means for us today is that from time to time, we need to go somewhere we cannot be found and catch a break in calm and quietness and do something for yourself like “eat.” Cellphones off. Computers off. Tablets off. Notifications off. Turn them all off and focus on yourself and feeding — your body, your mind, and especially your soul. Make the time to feed yourself because you’re so busy with life, then go find the quiet you need to rest. Make that a priority.
