God has a far better life for you than youll ever discover on your own. If we just look at the book of Joel, we see one big theme throughout: the land of Judah is suffering the repercussions over their past sins. They believed that they can do life without God. They were doing things knowing God, but without God– it’s like being in a room with you and just one other person that you know and ignoring that person. You know exactly how that feels for you and for the other person. This is what Judah had been doing to God says the Prophet Joel. If they didn’t ignore God and purposefully did things to spite Him, then they wouldn’t be in the situation that they are currently in. Repeated sin has a way of hardening our hearts, making us insensitive to God and less able to hear his call. That may be exactly why Judah is in the situation they are in, and it may, in fact, be the reason a lot of us are facing the consequences of our past decisions now. Just think about it: bad relationships, low self-esteem, limited opportunities at advancement, bad credit, etc. However, God gives them a way out: come back to Him. He gives us a way from making any more damage in our lives and in the world around our lives.
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls.
Joel 2:32
God loves you; if he didn’t, he never would have sent his Son into the world to die for you. Dont turn your back on his love, but turn to Jesus Christ and open yourself to the new life he has for you. Youll never regret it, now or in eternity. We need to understand that we cannot continue to ignore God when He is in the same space as us– and He is. He is clinging to you, He is appealing to you. We don’t want to hear Him out. We want it our way even in our struggles to reconcile our decisions and our situation. However, that is a huge risk. The risk being, a part of the problem is that we dont know the future. How do we know our lives wont suddenly be taken from us through an accident or unexpected illness? How do we know we’ll even want to turn to God as the years pass? It’s time to return to God.
