It always surprises me when grown adults fail to make the right decision and instead sabotage themselves and set themselves up for failure. Case in point: the shopping spree you embarked on this past weekend using your fantastic piece of plastic that you can pay back later. I could go on to cite celebrity mishaps or that last comment you shouldn’t have made on Facebook but now can’t delete; but I think we all understand that we tend to do the opposite of saving ourselves, if we get a choice. There is one choice that we can make which can save us despite everything we do to the contrary: believe in the witness that God raises Jesus from the dead.

And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” (Acts 2:40)

The one distinction between “us” and the “crooked generation” is accepting the good news of Jesus. The apostle Peter says your life, my life, our lives can be different through our faith. But we need to make this decision every single day to believe the good news. Not because our belief in God can be taken away, but because we would otherwise forget that God calls us to be saved. Saving ourselves requires a commitment to believing in God and trusting Him every single day.
