The weight of anxiety on your shoulders can be overwhelming. Anxiety keeps us awake at night, it makes us absent in the present, and obstructs our breathing as if the freedom we have in our lungs is being extinguished.

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. (Proverbs 12:25)

Here’s the good news: “a good word” can change how that anxiety affects you. The question is then, what is “a good word”? Is it words of inspiration? Words of encouragement? Maybe, it’s not words at all. Perhaps, it is a set of actions or intentions. The truth of the matter is that in its simplest meaning, we can take this passage from the Proverbs at face value and come to know that if you have anxiety, you need some good words or actions in your life to reverse the affects of anxiety in your life. Find some good words and some good actions that you can look at and hear to be relieved of your anxiety.

Perhaps you are carefree and happy without any anxiety. Then maybe it is for you to shut the anxiety off in the lives of other people suffering from horrible anxiety. Give them a good word and provide them with some relief through good actions. When was the last time you took the edge off somebody’s anxieties by saying something kind or by doing something encouraging?

Jesus knew that the most anxious thing somebody can face is the anxiety of sin weighing down the soul in eternity. So he gave us a good word to share — that he was here to take those sins and remove them from our lives if we would simply believe he would. He did just that and people’s lives were changed by the good word. Don’t let the weight of anxiety suffocate you or the people around you. There is a good word that makes everybody glad, remember it, treasure it, and share it today.
