If you’ve ever wondered what the work of God is for your life, then stop and read what Jesus tells people in John 6:29.
Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” (John 6:29)
The work of God in your life is to believe in Jesus. That’s different than just knowing that Jesus was sent here by God to save sinners, people like us. It’s living your life like you have been saved by Jesus. But this is not new. The people Jesus was talking to in this passage asked him to perform more signs for them before they would considering changing what they believed. He had just healed sick people, fed five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish, and then walked on water; yet they still wouldn’t change their attitudes about how they wanted to live.
The problem with many of us is that we know why Jesus came and yet there is nothing in our lives that reflect his coming. We claim to be born again through the one and only save Jesus Christ, but our actions and reactions say otherwise.
What would your life look like if you lived your life in belief that the work of God in your life is to believe in what Jesus did for you? How would your actions and motives be reflected in your everyday circumstance? What would you do different? What would you prioritize? Who would you prioritize? Is the work of God being displayed in your life?
