Have you ever found a barrier between you and God? Like you tried to pray, but silence. Perhaps you tried to meditate on His being and you get blank thoughts. Or like you tried to believe, but you just have doubt beyond belief.
And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. (Mark 15:38)
When Jesus died, the temple and its entire sacrificial system which separated people from God, died with him. The system died with Jesus because because he fulfilled the requirements of the system and therefore made it unnecessary. He was the Passover lamb offered as a sin offering for all who believe in him.
So when the temple curtain split at the death of Christ, the barrier between God and humanity was removed for everyone. The curtain was torn from the top. God tore the curtain, not people. Jesus made it possible for us to be with God and all we have to do is reach up for him.
There is a story in Mark 5 about a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years that believed if she could just touch Jesus’ clothes, that she would be healed. She did touch Jesus’ clothes, and was healed. Her belief made it possible for her to become whole. So, we too, can become whole and be manifest with God’s power and glory when we reach out to God.
Have faith like the woman who had been sick for 12 years who reached out for Jesus, and understand that when the curtain was torn from the top to the bottom, we can be sure of God’s infinite love for us.
