What would it take for you to change your minds? Nay, what would it take for you to change your heart on something or someone? It would take an act of God, wouldn’t it? Look at what Moses writes to his readers in this part of Deuteronomy:

Yet the Lord chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today. Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. – Deuteronomy 10:15-16

The act of God was His choice of who became the object of His love. That object or those objects are you and me. Simply put, God acted and chose us intentionally. If you have thought about never forgiving somebody; if you have ever believed that you were right and couldn’t be wrong; if you have ever decided something about someone and believed there was nothing that can change your heart and mind, then you need to see what God has done by choosing you. Moses, in speaking to his readers, says that the evidence today is the freedom you have as an object of God’s love to live without the burden of sin weighing on your eternity. Moses says that God’s actions show us that “God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God.” When God acted, Jesus came to earth as a man and bore the sins of people whom loved him little to none. God sacrificed His own for the likes of me and you. He acted in a mighty way so that we would change our minds. Why don’t we change our hearts as a result of His actions? Perhaps we have changed our hearts for a while, but we forgot or forget about what God did and does. We forget because we’re stupid and dumb. We forgot because we’re narcissistic and conceited. Whatever the reason, when look at what God does by choosing you and me above everybody else who has more than you and is better than you or me, we need to change our hearts to be open to this awesome God. When we change our hearts for God and to God we become like God in all that He does. It is something we need strive toward. Let’s change our hearts.
